Ang Anak ni Lino Brocka

Posted by: Rhon  /  Category: Film Review, Films, Movie

I finally able to finish Sanchez’ Flick: “Ang Anak ni Lino Brocka”, I once watched the first part of this Creative Docu Film at Guttierez “Teng” Mangansakan’s place, a friend and mentor in filmmaking last May. Luckily, I had the chance to buy my own cd (not pirated), on a cheaper price.

The story evolves in finding out if the late Lino Brocka happens to have a son, and chasing every lead they can find, and along with the search is meeting up with friends and other people happen to work with the late Director. In the search, Lino Brocka’s life story is told through interviews with people he has worked with, families and friends. As well as some footages of his flicks that made him a legend in the filmmaking world, his films involve: “Insiang” – the first Film in the Philippines that was shown in Cannes Film Festival; “Gumapang ka sa Lusak”, “Maynila: Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag”, “Bayan ko, Kapit sa Patalim” and the list goes on.

The film shows what kind of person is Lino Brocka, generous, smart, passionate filmmaker and an activist. Indeed, his films marked of an activist, unafraid to show the discrimination and injustices in the country, fights against the administration.

In the end of the film, Lino Brocka didn’t have any son at all… but the film points out what does it mean to be a child of the late Director, if one is unafraid to stand up for his right. Who fights against injustices in your surroundings to promote a just and peaceful environment, then you are considered as “Anak ni Lino Brocka.”
