Government sites Hacked: Philippines – just among others
Posted by: Rhon / Category: News, Philippines, politicalJust when we thought that the Philippines were the only country being hacked for the past weeks there goes the hijacking of Spain’s official site early this 2010. In the EU’s site, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero’s photo were replaced by Mr. Bean’s photo with a text: “hi there!” Zapatero is the Prime Minister of Spain.

Apart from the Hijacking of EU’s site, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Web site were also hijacked. according as quoted in the CNN site:
The text on his site was replaced with a note remarking on the death of “my favorite singer Michael Jackson” and “my favorite voice Neda,” the woman killed last year during protests over Iranian elections. It ended with a request that God smite Ahmadinejad and “my favorite dictator [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei in 2010.”
Whatever the reason why hackers are targeting Government Sites and Government personalities, this only prove that the Government had not anticipated the security of Government sites. with this thought, I wonder if the Automation for Election is a safer way, considering that there could be a millions of hackers out there waiting to get paid. And I firmly believe that running over some test on how it works should have been done few years back considering that we not talking about a simple event here. this could mean the future of every Filipino.

Hi Rhon. I think the petitions / motions on stopping the computerized elections has also caused delay on finalizing the system to be used and thus conduct testing.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that everything will turn out ok, including the back-up manual system in place (I assume there will be), in case anything should fail.
Failure of elections I think will not be acceptable and may cause chaos.
